Spotted: Vibram Five Fingers in Santa Cruz
Running barefoot seems to be the trendy topic these days, and I’ve been noticing people all around the bay area wearing the Vibram Five Finger shoes. These shoes are similar to water booties, and I’m not sure I buy the premise behind them. The Perhaps I’ll have to try a pair out for myself soon, but in the meantime, I’ve been spotting them in the wild. Not too long ago I posted an article to try and get to the bottom of the craze, check it out: Five Fingers Spotted in the Wild
Here’s a pair I found last weekend in Santa Cruz, CA.

You should pick up the book “Born to Run.” As you know, I’m pretty much on-board the barefoot bandwagon. I think there’s a lot of recent data that supports the benefits of doing some running in more minimal shoes (or barefoot.) My from POV, I see lots of improvements in my feet strength and form. It could be placebo, but I am a happy runner lately.
I do have a suggestion for you. The next time you run by a nice, soft field, take your shoes and socks off and do a light run for a 1/2 mile. I think you’ll enjoy it.
BTW, this is your second post about the Vibram 5 Fingers. I think you’re itching to get a pair!
Kathy, please don’t even consider barefoot running. You are too fast as it is. If you were to lose the shoes, there is no way that anyone could keep up with you.
