post marathon celebration
After running a marathon, I never feel like eating anything. I read a lot about how important it is to refuel after any long distance race or training run, but my stomach is usually still in knots from race nerves, and from getting jostled around for 4 hours – the last thing I want to do is try to wolf down food that has a high potential of coming right back up.
When I finished the New York Marathon, I forced down an apple and two bites of a recovery power bar, and then headed to meet my sister, and friends, Megan and Carl at Fred’s for a pint. I’ll be the first to admit that beer isn’t the best idea for post race nutrition, but it does work very well for the post race celebration.
