My introduction to Ann Patchett was through this book. I believe her intent is to unify her readers by drawing unique and surprising comparisons between race, and class through athletics and politics. The story is good and I enjoyed reading the book, however it left me wanting more. The major story lines were too subtle; with such bold themes, I wanted the characters to have more controversy. I wouldn’t read the book again, but I did enjoy it as it’s a good story.
